Is
it easier for a European company to raise venture capitalist
(VC) money in the U.S. than it is in Europe?
|
|
|
Probably not.
Even though funding is generally higher, competition is tougher
in the U.S. VCs do not want to manage too many deals; they
focus on those that can become leaders quickly. They have
a few requirements you have to know before spending your time
looking for U.S. VCs:
- They will ask you to set up the headquarters
of your company in the U.S. Your development team may stay
in Europe, but management will have to move.
- If you do not have a successful track
record of doing business and running an internet or software
company in the U.S., they will hire a CEO to run the company
for you.
- You should already have U.S. customers
or strong testimonials from U.S. companies they can talk
to. Finally, expect hands-on management and a lot of pressure.
